Overview

Data and AI for Social Impact (DAISI) is IBM’s initiative to help nonprofit organizations achieve a greater impact on individuals and society. About twice a year, DAISI hosts a free 2-day workshop for nonprofit organizations dedicated to addressing poverty, hunger, and/or homelessness. In this workshop representatives from the nonprofit and IBM Designers, and AI engineers come together to co-create solutions with the nonprofit’s own data and IBM’s IBM’s Data and AI technology. The team needed marketing support in reaching out to nonprofits for the upcoming workshop in July 2024, so I stepped in to provide marketing videos

Purpose

The purpose of creating video with the DAISI team was to capture the outputs from the DAISI workshop in Atlanta and showcase the value that watsonx can bring to nonprofits in a shareable way so that we can better promote the upcoming workshop in Chicago

When I first joined the DAISI core team, I saw an opportunity to create videos to summarize the end to end experience that Open Hand and Pebble tossers had during the 2 day workshop from uncovering their most pressing pain points that can be addressed with data and watsonx to demoing a functional asset. In the past we’ve made many 1-pagers to summarize a project or solution, but for promotional purposes videos are a better medium. They are more engaging, it can better grab the attention of an audience, and they’re highly shareable through social media.

Outcome

I’m happy to say that the videos were approve by the DAISI core team to include in promotional outreach and both non-profits are using the video to secure funding from stakeholders. These videos are now reusable assets and the upcoming goal is to obtain approval from Comms/marketing to bring more visibility to watsonx capabilities to help nonprofits, and the video can be shared with clients as well to generate engagement opportunities.

Reflections

In creating these videos I realized how hard it is to distill the work and progress from a 2-day workshop into a 1:30 minute video. There were so many important points I wanted to capture in these videos such as the background of the nonprofits, and more explanation on watsonx capabilities. I wasn’t sure what information was important to keep so my first draft of the script read out to be about 3 minutes long. Reminding myself that the core purpose of the video was to showcase highlights of the workshop with the most focus on the technology demo, helped me refine the video to its final 1:30 min length.

My flow of sharing the video with the team for feedback throughout the editing process helped me make incremental changes to the video so that I could complete each video in a couple of days.
